The scale of China's switching power supply and power adapter industry can be divided into three stages of development. According to the statistical data and information of the former Ministry of Electronics Industry, a rough outline of development can be drawn.

The first stage was before 1976, which was the early stage of the development of China's switching power supply and power adapter industry.

Before the liberation, China's switching power supply, power adapter industry is basically blank, only batteries, dry batteries of small enterprises. In the 1950 s, with the construction of a large number of state-owned enterprises, with the development of raw materials, original devices and complete machine industries in the electronics industry, power products also emerged from scratch. In 1959, two factories and one school produced more than 1600 power supplies of five specifications. By 1976, after 17 years of development, it had developed to 26 factories, 34 varieties, 52 specifications and more than 33000 power supplies. The production unit increased by 8.7 times, the variety specification increased by 10.4 times, and the output increased by 20.2 times. The first stage from scratch, although the growth rate is fast, the scale of the power industry is still very small.

The second stage is 1977-1989, is China's switching power supply, power adapter industry initial growth period.

This stage is the initial stage of China's reform and opening up, economic construction is gradually accelerating, and the power industry has gradually entered a stage of rapid growth. In 1989, the number of power supply production enterprises has grown to 171, with more than 340 product specifications and an annual output of more than 540000 power supplies. The number of production enterprises increased by 6.6 times compared with 1976, the variety increased by 10 times, and the output increased by 16.4 times.

At this stage, with the gradual and rapid development of the power industry, the majority of power science and technology workers urgently need to break the original closed state and understand the outside world. Since the mid-1970s, power science and technology personnel have organized technical exchanges spontaneously. In 1978, the first national power technology exchange meeting was held. In 1983, the China Power Supply Society was established. In 1986, it was approved by the State Science and Technology Commission.

The third stage is from 1990 to the present, which is the great development period of China's switching power supply and power adapter industry.

At this stage, in addition to the original Ministry of Electronics Industry system, other industries and systems, such as machinery, post and telecommunications, railways, electric power, military systems, etc., have power development and production, especially township enterprises and private enterprises have sprung up in large numbers, with thousands across the country, almost all over the country, and a number of power supply enterprises with more than 100 million yuan or even more than 1 billion yuan have emerged. In the past 10 years, a large number of foreign products and companies have entered the country and occupied a considerable share, which has intensified market competition.
